The only solution I can think of is to be really entertaining when speaking about politics. Like the way a great tour guide is fun and entertaining and leaves you with some new knowledge about a place.
I think that’s a great possible solution! I like the example too, tour guides typically try to keep exaggeration to a minimum while conveying as much interesting and useful information possible to those who don’t know about it.
actually, as a former tour guide, I can say that many of them would never let the truth or facts get in the the way of a good story or joke. So I would suggest aiming for the entertaining nature of a tour guide rather than the adherence to the truth.
The other thing relevant about being a tour guide is that they are all about what their audience thinks is interesting and important. They don’t try to force feed an audience with what they think is important.
And they think about the whole group and giving something to everyone. For example, choosing a more attractive street because some people don’t care about the stories, they just want to look around or take photos.
And communicating to everyone, no matter where they are from. Like removing “blocks” from my stories because rural guests don’t think about distance in that way.
Yes, I agree with most of this. I don’t mean to say this (MAGA, or the tour guide in this example) should be a source of truth, per se. More so, they should tame their speech in a way that is interesting while *attempting to convey as much truth as possible*. The interpreter will always be erroneous as well as the speaker, but I think we can all improve on this—particularly MAGA, the current government.
What are you talking about that Democrats haven’t figured this out yet?
Were you alive prior to 2015?
The Democrats and the left more broadly have been playing this game for years as well.
This is a bipartisan issue. The only difference is that Trump is much more effective with this strategy.
Bernie Sanders has the exact same media strategy, except he has to deal with the ick of being a socialist that has always shaved off just enough votes to keep him out of the presidency.

The hyperbole is not a one sided issue.
